• One day after having their five-game winning streak halted, the Pittsburgh Pirates attempt to start a new one when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday for the opener of their four-game set. Pittsburgh captured the final three contests of its 5-3 road trip and the first two meetings with San Francisco before dropping the series finale 3-2 on Sunday. The Pirates registered only five hits in the setback – three of which went for extra bases, including Josh Bell’s two-run homer in the fourth inning that snapped a scoreless tie. The blast was the fourth of the season for Bell, who hit only 12 last year after launching a career-high 26 the previous campaign.
• The Diamondbacks lost two of three to the Chicago Cubs over the weekend after beginning their 10-game road trip by sweeping their three-game series in Atlanta. Jarrod Dyson produced two of Arizona’s three hits in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to the Cubs, including a home run in the ninth inning, while Adam Jones recorded the other hit to give him at least one in seven of his last eight contests.
• Godley bounced back from a rough outing against San Diego by limiting the Braves to two runs over six innings in a no-decision at Atlanta on Wednesday. The 28-year-old native of South Carolina has worked at least 5 1/3 frames in each of his four turns this season but has yet to get past six. Godley has made two starts and one relief appearance versus Pittsburgh in his career, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA.
• Musgrove has made three starts since making his season debut out of the bullpen, allowing a total of two earned runs in 20 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old Californian settled for a no-decision at Detroit on Tuesday after giving up two runs and six hits over seven frames. Musgrove hopes to give a similar performance on Monday after going 0-1 with a 5.56 ERA in two starts and one relief appearance versus Arizona in his career.
• Pirates OF Bryan Reynolds went 4-for-6 with a double over the weekend in his first two major-league games.
• Arizona recalled Jimmie Sherfy from Triple-A Reno and optioned fellow RHP Taylor Clarke, who notched the save on Saturday in his major-league debut, to the Aces.
• Pittsburgh placed Jacob Stallings (neck) on the 10-day injured list and activated fellow C Elias Diaz (virus) prior to Sunday’s contest.
