• The New York Yankees have more players on the injured list than wins, but some unlikely sources have stepped up in the early going to keep them competitive in the American League East. Fresh off a fifth victory in six tries, New York begins a nine-game West Coast road trip on Monday with the opener of a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. Aaron Judge became the 13th Yankee to land on the IL on Sunday with what manager Aaron Boone called a “pretty significant strain” in his left oblique, joining a list that includes notable offensive stars such as Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius. One day after Mike Tauchman clubbed a three-run homer to spark New York past Kansas City, Austin Romine capped a three-hit, three-RBI performance with a go-ahead single in the 10th inning en route to a 7-6 victory on Sunday. “There’s a couple guys that are irreplaceable here, but we’ve got to find a way to do it,” Romine told reporters. “We’re still winning games. We’ve got guys stepping up left and right.”

• The Angels hope their roller-coaster season – which has featured a 1-6 start followed by 7-1 stretch – is back on the upswing after they held off a late rally by Seattle on Sunday to post an 8-6 victory and stop their six-game losing streak.

• Happ continued to struggle with the long ball but managed to post a quality start for the first time in four tries in Wednesday’s no-decision against Boston, permitting three runs and six hits – two homers – over a season-high 6 1/3 innings. The 36-year-old has surrendered six blasts already and given up at least one in six consecutive regular-season outings. Mike Trout (5-for-16, six RBIs) and Albert Pujols (10-for-38, seven) have fared well versus Happ, who is 2-6 with a 5.57 ERA in eight career starts against the Angels.

• Harvey is in the middle of a brutal three-start stretch during which he has lost twice while posting a 10.05 ERA, giving up 18 earned runs and 22 hits despite working a total of 12 2/3 innings over that span. The 2013 All-Star was charged with five runs – four earned – over 4 1/3 frames in Wednesday’s loss at Texas, although he avoided giving up a home run for the first time in four turns. Harvey hasn’t faced the Yankees since 2015 but is 1-0 with a 1.25 ERA in three career starts against them.

• Sunday’s victory pushed the Yankees’ record to 11-10, marking the second time since winning the season opener they have been over .500.

• Los Angeles 3B Tommy La Stella recorded his second two-homer performance of the season on Sunday, giving him a career-high six blasts in 57 at-bats after entering 2019 with 10 in his first 828 major-league at-bats.

• New York has played only six road games, outscoring Baltimore 29-11 during a three-game sweep from April 4-7 before being swept by Houston immediately thereafter.
