Reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is off to a historic start and he looks to post his ninth straight double-double when the Milwaukee Bucks visit the Utah Jazz on Friday in search of their fifth straight win. Antetokounmpo is the first player in NBA history to exceed 200 points, 100 rebounds and 50 assists in the first eight games of season. Antetokounmpo had a season-high 38 points to go with 16 rebounds and nine assists while leading the Bucks to a 129-124 road win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday to boost his season totals to 232 points, 114 rebounds and 61 assists. He has scored at least 30 points on four occasions, collected 10 or more boards in all eight games and recorded at least five assists in each contest.

Utah broke a two-game slide with a 106-104 home win over the Philadelphia 76ers as star guard Donovan Mitchell had 24 points and a season-best eight assists. “Just trying to find ways to get my teammates involved and make it easier on myself,” Mitchell said afterward.

Antetokounmpo was just 4-of-23 from 3-point range through the first seven games and broke out of that funk with a 4-of-7 effort against Los Angeles. “I’m very confident,” Antetokounmpo said of his 3-point shooting in a postgame interview with ESPN. “I’ve been confident the whole season but tonight they just went in. I got to believe in my technique and eventually they will get in.” Point guard Eric Bledsoe scored 20 points against Los Angeles and is averaging 21 points and 7.5 rebounds over the past two games.

Point guard Mike Conley scored 15 points against the 76ers for his third 15-point outing in four games and he is averaging 17.8 points during the stretch. “I thought I had a good flow throughout the whole game, just knowing when my time was to be aggressive and when I was to be a decoy or cutting or whatever it was,” Conley told reporters afterward. “I’m just trying to figure out where my timing is and I think tonight was a good step.” Forward Joe Ingles scored a season-high 16 points off the bench for just his second double-digit effort of the season.

Mitchell (46 points) and Antetokounmpo (43) both put on a show in the most recent meeting in Salt Lake City as the Jazz prevailed 115-111 on March 2.

Milwaukee reserve G George Hill scored a season-best 24 points and matched his career high of six 3-pointers (in just seven attempts) against the Clippers.

Utah C Rudy Gobert recorded 14 points and 16 rebounds against Philadelphia for his third straight double-double and fourth of the season.
