Who will WIN this matchup?
Toronto Raptors
@ Golden State Warriors
Current odds:
Toronto Raptors: (+165)
Golden State Warriors: (-190)
• The line for this game is Golden State by 4.5 points.
• Shooting guard Klay Thompson hopes to be on the floor when the Golden State Warriors host the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Thompson injured his left hamstring in Sunday’s Game 2 victory and considers himself a game-time decision despite coach Steve Kerr listing him as questionable. Warriors forward Kevin Durant (calf) has been ruled out for the third straight time in the series tied 1-1 and Thompson has no interest in joining him on the sidelines. “For me personally, it’d be hard to see me not playing,” Thompson told reporters on Tuesday. “Hopefully I’ll feel much better and be a go for tipoff. Obviously I’ll do anything I can to be out there. It’s in their hands. If there’s any pain, it’ll be a no-go just because of the position we’re in. It could be a longer series.”
• Raptors star forward Kawhi Leonard had 34 points and 14 rebounds in the Game 2 loss and is averaging 28.5 points and 11 rebounds while continuing to carry the team in the postseason. “The only thing that matters is the four – four wins,” Leonard told reporters. “Once you get it, two wins, three wins, it does not matter. Just take one game at a time and just play through the adversity.”
• Toronto let an opportunity get away in Game 2 when it shot just 37.2 percent from the field as Leonard (8-of-20), power forward Pascal Siakam (5-of-18) and point guard Kyle Lowry (4-of-11) were all missing their shooting touch. Siakam had just 12 points after putting up 32 on 14-of-17 shooting in the opener. “I think I missed a lot of layups and floaters and stuff like that that I usually make,” Siakam said after Game 2. “I think for the most part, it was that. I just couldn’t get in a rhythm offensively. But that’s basketball. You make shots one day, you miss some the other day. I take those shots all the time.”
• Durant didn’t practice with the Warriors on Tuesday – he instead had his own workout at the team practice facility later in the day – and Kerr said he was improving and that there was hope he could be back for Game 4. Kerr indicated that Thompson will be monitored closely leading up to Game 3 as he expects the sharpshooter will want to play no matter how he is feeling. “Klay is always going to say he’s ready to go,” Kerr said. “What we will have to determine is that a risk if he plays. … If there’s a risk we’d rather give him the next couple days to continue to heal and hopefully have him out there for Game 4. It’s literally day-to-day.”
• Warriors PG Stephen Curry is averaging 28.5 points in the series but is just 14-of-35 from the field.
• Toronto backup PG Fred VanVleet has put up efforts of 15 and 17 points in the first two games and is averaging 16 over the past five games.
• Golden State backup PF Kevon Looney (fractured rib cartilage) will miss the rest of the series.
