The line for this game is 49ers by 8 points.

Aaron Rodgers didn’t put his best foot forward in his previous encounter against the San Francisco 49ers, and that effort resulted in the last time the Green Bay Packers fell short on the scoreboard. Rodgers and the second-seeded Packers look to avenge a lopsided loss in Week 12 when they visit the top-seeded 49ers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. “They’re obviously expected to hold court and win,” Rodgers said. “People know and they’re talking about how we played the last time so I think if they look at pressure, the pressure is in a certain place and we should be nice and loose.”

The two-time NFL MVP was far from loose in the previous meeting, as he was sacked five times and limited to just 104 yards despite completing 20 passes in Green Bay’s 37-8 setback to San Francisco on Nov. 24. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan wasn’t interested in reliving that contest, telling reporters that the game had gotten away from the Packers and forced them to change their offensive approach. “I don’t think they’ve lost a game since then, so I think that game really holds zero relevance to what’s going to happen this Sunday,” Shanahan said.

Although Davante Adams reeled in seven catches — albeit for just 43 yards — in the first meeting, the star wideout believes he can have a bigger impact in Sunday’s contest. “Obviously if we left the game with eight points and lost by 20s or whatever it was, obviously the plan wasn’t good enough,” the 27-year-old Adams said. “… (This week’s) plan, so far what I’ve seen, I really like, and I think it’s a better way to attack this defense.” Adams recorded eight receptions for a franchise-best 160 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Aaron Jones also found the end zone on two occasions in Green Bay’s 28-23 victory over Seattle last Sunday in the NFC divisional round. Jones, however, mustered just 38 yards in the first encounter against the 49ers’ second-ranked defense.

While Green Bay relies predominantly on Jones out of the backfield, San Francisco features a three-pronged contingent of Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida to headline its second-ranked rushing game. While Mostert had a 15-yard touchdown run in the first meeting with the Packers, Coleman had a pair of short scoring runs in the 49ers’ 27-10 romp over Minnesota last Saturday in the NFC divisional round. Jimmy Garoppolo, who finished with just 131 yards passing, tossed a touchdown on the first drive and an opportunistic defense turned a pair of second-half turnovers into 10 points last week. All-Pro tight end George Kittle, who had a 61-yard touchdown reception in the previous encounter with Green Bay, showed no signs of a sore ankle while being a full participant in Thursday’s practice.

One of San Francisco CB Richard Sherman’s three interceptions in the playoffs came at the expense of Rodgers in the NFC Championship Game in 2015.

Green Bay’s Matt LaFleur is attempting to become the sixth man to reach the Super Bowl in his first year as head coach.

49ers rookie WR Deebo Samuel, who had a team high-tying three receptions last week, had a 42-yard touchdown in the first meeting with the Packers.
