Who will WIN this matchup?
Anaheim Ducks (4-1-0)
@ Boston Bruins (4-1-0)
Starting Goalies:
John Gibson(ANA): Confirmed
Jaroslav Halak (BOS): Confirmed
Current odds:
Anaheim Ducks: (+175)
Boston Bruins: (-210)
• The Boston Bruins showed they can be every bit as dominant at home as they were on their season-opening four-game road trip. The Bruins look to ride the momentum of their second shutout and fourth win in five outings when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Monday afternoon. Tuukka Rask answered Jaroslav Halak’s 35-save shutout of Arizona on Oct. 5 by turning aside all 31 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory versus New Jersey on Saturday. “We’re starting to figure it out a bit now,” said Boston left wing Brad Marchand, who scored in the first period of both games. “A little bit of a different training camp this year, and a different feel. … There’s going to be a little bit of rust there, but I think we’re feeling good.”
• Like Boston, Anaheim likely is feeling pretty good about itself after riding solid goaltending to win a franchise best-tying four of its first five games on the season. John Gibson posted a 1.26 goals-against average with a .961 save percentage over his first four contests before watching fellow netminder Ryan Miller turned aside 26 shots in Friday’s 2-1 victory over Columbus.
• Anaheim is receiving just enough offense to benefit its defensive-minded ways, with blue-liner Cam Fowler and Jakob Silfverberg scoring against the Blue Jackets to raise their co-leading goal totals to two. “I know it’s a results-oriented thing, but I think we’re doing a lot of good things,” the 27-year-old Fowler told the Orange County Register. “The main thing is we’re creating momentum for our team. We’re getting opportunities.” Fowler’s 60th career goal placed him in a tie with Scott Niedermayer for the all-time franchise lead by defensemen.
• In addition to his first-period goal on Saturday, Marchand notched his 300th career assist on Patrice Bergeron’s power-play tally. “He’s on right now,” Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said of 31-year-old Marchand, who extended his points streak to four games (four goals, three assists). “That line seems to be clicking like we’ve seen them typically.” That line comprised of Marchand, Bergeron and David Pastrnak has totaled 17 of the team’s 32 points this season and had five (one goal, four assists) in two wins over Anaheim in 2018-19.
• Anaheim (0-for-10) joins Arizona, New Jersey and Ottawa as the lone NHL teams yet to convert on the power play.
• Halak turned aside all 30 shots he faced in the Bruins’ 3-0 victory over the Ducks on Feb. 15.
• Ducks D Hampus Lindholm has notched an assist in four of five games this season.
