The Detroit Red Wings were down in the dumps with one win in a 13-game stretch (1-11-1) before flipping the script and emerging victorious in each of their last three contests. The Red Wings aim to extend their season-high winning streak on Thursday when they continue their trek through California with an encounter against the Los Angeles Kings. Recent trade acquisition Robby Fabbri notched an assist on the game-winning goal for the second time in as many games on Tuesday after setting up defenseman Dennis Cholowski at 2:04 of overtime to lead Detroit to a 4-3 victory over Anaheim. “Lately if we get down a goal or two, we are not panicking. We’re not playing frantic or anything like that,” the 21-year-old Cholowski said. “We still have the same habits. We’re still forechecking and getting the puck in deep, so that’s good to see.”

Captain Anze Kopitar is also seeing results as he scored and set up a goal on Tuesday to help Los Angeles snap a three-game skid (0-2-1) with a 3-1 victory against Minnesota. The 32-year-old Slovene, who has collected two goals and three assists during his four-game point streak, scored in both meetings with Detroit last season.

Anthony Mantha, who leads the team in goals (11) and points (19), set up Dylan Larkin’s power-play tally with 37 seconds remaining in the third period on Tuesday to extend his point streak to four games (two goals, three assists). The timely power-play goal not only boosted Larkin’s point streak to three games (two goals, one assist), but the 23-year-old also felt that it marked a potential turning point for the team as it navigates its way on a three-game road trip through the Golden State. “There was a tough stretch there where we didn’t like the way we were playing, but we kept working hard,” Larkin told reporters. “I think you see our confidence coming through in this win by coming from behind.”

The marriage between Ilya Kovalchuk and Los Angeles is starting to get messy, with the veteran forward finding himself as a healthy scratch on Tuesday. “First of all, it’s — how do you want to call it? — it’s not a great situation,” Kopitar said, per The Athletic. “Kovy is a good guy. There’s nothing that’s wrong with the attitude or anything. He wants to win. He wants to do the best. He’s a really good guy off the ice. Everybody can probably say that about him. It’s just, for whatever reason, it’s not working on the ice.” The 36-year-old Kovalchuk has one goal and two assists in his last 13 games while playing in his second season in the NHL after spending five years in his native Russia.

Los Angeles has lost all five games versus Eastern Conference foes this season (0-4-1)

Detroit LW Tyler Bertuzzi also set up Larkin’s late goal to notch his second two-assist performance in three outings.

Kings C Alex Iafallo has one goal and two assists in his past four games.
