•  While Villa have been lauded for much of the season for their strong start, West Ham are now just a point behind following a very difficult fixture list and as such would leapfrog their visitors with a win.

•  The hosts are unlikely to break rank and push high up the pitch knowing Villa’s threat in behind and will be happy to frustrate Dean Smith’s side in a rigid shape, which will be even tougher to break down in the absence of Ross Barkley.

•  Thus far Villa have picked up unexpected results, both in terms of wins and defeats, but with no clear favourite in this one we could see a share of the spoils.
