• One of the pre-tournament favourites and Africa’s top-ranked nation by FIFA, Senegal, managed to scrape a 1-0 victory over Zimbabwe right at the death during their opening Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B clash. The ‘Lions of Teranga’ had ample excuse for that tepid showing though, as they only had 18 players available due to illness and injuries, and they should prove a stronger force for this clash.

• Although ranked 61 places worse than Senegal by FIFA, Guinea look like a rejuvenated side after following up three scoreless games with back-to-back wins ’to nil’. This is the sixth occasion since the start of 2018 that Guinea have recorded back-to-back victories, though they didn’t follow up with a third in any of the previous five (D3, L2).
