• The original date for this Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg was last week but it was postponed due to a suspected outbreak of COVID in the Liverpool squad. After losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest at the weekend, Arsenal must fear the momentum they had built has now gone heading to Anfield on Thursday.

• Both teams will still be hamstrung by absences in midweek, particularly those away at AFCON, but Liverpool will be feeling more confidently about their chances compared to had the tie gone ahead as originally planned when they were set to be without an even greater number of players.

• Arsenal did knock Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup on penalties last season but they haven’t won at Anfield in regular time since back in 2012 when Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla gave the Gunners a 2-0 victory in the Premier League.
