• Europe watched in awe on Sunday night as France raced into a 5-0 half-time lead against Italy to strengthen their claim for this year’s Euro 2022 crown. A second-half Italian goal did little to take the shine off France’s evening, but despite that 5-1 victory manager Corinne Diacre downplayed the result by urging her side not to get carried away, labelling the result as “the first of six steps”.

• In what could potentially be a feast for the neutral, Belgium aren’t goal-shy either, hitting at least four goals in their last four international victories. They weren’t victorious in their Euro 2022 opener however, claiming a 1-1 draw against Iceland, though as the group’s lowest ranked side (#19), that result was by no means a disgrace.
