Manuel Akanji, Andraz Sporar and Adama Traore are doubts for Basel as they prepare to face Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. All missed their 3-0 win over Luzern at the weekend and may not be fit in time to feature here. With Traore a doubt, 18-year-old Blas Riveros may have to deputise at left-back once again.

Layvin Kurzawa, Angel di Maria, Maxwell and Serge Aurier have all returned to training after missing their 2-1 win over Nancy at the weekend and are expected to come straight back into the team, albeit with Maxwell on the bench. Thiago Motta and Javier Pastore are the only expected absentees on Wednesday. Hatem Ben Arfa has been reintegrated back into the team and is an option for Emery, while Jese has also returned from injury and was an unused substitute at the weekend.

Paris Saint-Germain are still coming to terms with a new way of playing under Unai Emery and it’s not been the start the Ligue 1 champions would have wanted. After failing to beat Arsenal at home, PSG cannot afford anymore slip ups if they want to progress from this group as winners. Having said that, they have won five of their last six matches in all competitions and they are unbeaten at home.

Basel have won 13 of their 15 matches this season and they have only lost one of their last four in the Champions League, drawing three of those. However, they haven’t fared well against the stronger sides in Europe and they may come up short here once again.
