Patrick Mahomes II equaled the FBS all-time record for passing yards in his last outing and the Texas Tech junior quarterback will look for another stellar performance when the Red Raiders visit TCU in a Big 12 contest on Saturday. Mahomes passed for 734 yards in last Saturday’s 66-59 loss to Oklahoma and both teams figure to put a lot of points on the scoreboard due to each squad’s shaky defensive unit.

TCU allows 267.1 passing yards per game and the Horned Frogs will be looking to rebound on offense after setting season lows for points and total offense (300) in last Saturday’s 34-10 loss to West Virginia. There certainly is potential for a huge bounce-back outing as the Red Raiders rank 127th (out of 128 teams) in both scoring defense (43.9 points) and total defense (532.7 yards per game).

Mahomes leads the nation with 3,313 passing yards and is tied for third with 26 touchdown passes while fueling an attack that is producing a national-best 640.3 yards of total offense and ranks second in scoring (50.3). Sophomore receiver Jonathan Giles is tied for the national lead with 11 touchdown receptions to go with 53 grabs for 917 yards, while junior Cameron Batson is also performing well with 41 catches for 453 yards and six scores.

Junior quarterback Kenny Hill has regressed after a hot start and he has thrown a Big 12-worst nine interceptions to go with 2,290 yards and 13 touchdowns. Junior running back Kyle Hicks has three 100-yard outings and ranks third in the Big 12 with 582 rushing yards while sophomore receiver/returner KaVontae Turpin (32.8 average on kickoffs, 28.8 average and one touchdown on punts) is expected back after missing four games with a knee injury.

TCU recorded a 55-52 victory in last season’s contest and is averaging 68.5 points in the last two meetings with Texas Tech.
