• With their season-high four-game winning streak a thing of the past, the Anaheim Ducks attempt to begin a new one when they start a four-game homestand Sunday against the Edmonton Oilers. The Ducks had the tables turned on them Saturday as they suffered a 2-0 loss at Arizona after winning their previous two games by the same score. The setback, which marked only the second time Anaheim was shut out this season, dropped the club from third place in the Pacific Division to the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference as the playoff race heats up.
• Edmonton will be playing the role of spoiler for the rest of the campaign as it sits 17 points behind the Ducks for the second wild card. The Oilers have picked it up of late, however, winning three of their last four contests after edging Los Angeles 4-3 on Saturday in the opener of their three-game California trip. Captain Connor McDavid leads the team with 71 points but has been kept off the scoresheet in four of his last six games.
• Edmonton parted ways with Brandon Davidson on Saturday, sending the defenseman to the New York Islanders for a third-round pick in the 2019 draft. The 26-year-old Davidson, who was a sixth-round selection in 2010, registered three goals and an assist in 23 games this season for the Oilers, who had claimed him off waivers from Montreal on Dec. 3. Blue-liner Andrej Sekera was back in the lineup Saturday after missing seven games with a facial injury and posted a minus-1 rating while blocking two shots in 15:29 of ice time.
• Anaheim recalled Kalle Kossila from San Diego of the American Hockey League on Saturday, but the center was a healthy scratch against the Coyotes. The 24-year-old Finn appeared in 10 games with the Ducks earlier this season, registering a goal and an assist for his first two points in the NHL. Veteran netminder Ryan Miller has been outstanding of late, allowing one goal on 98 shots over his last three appearances – including one in relief.
• Oilers C Ryan Strome is three assists away from 100 in the NHL after notching one Saturday.
• Anaheim C Ryan Getzlaf (900), and RWs Ondrej Kase (100) and Jakob Silfverberg (400) all reached career milestones in games played Saturday, but the latter remained four points shy of 200 in the NHL.
• Edmonton RW Ty Rattie was recalled from Bakersfield of the American Hockey League but was a healthy scratch against Los Angeles, delaying his debut with the team.
