• Even by Mike Trout’s standards, this has been a particularly noteworthy month for the two-time MVP. Trout has homered 11 times in his last 13 games to lead the surging Los Angeles Angels, who conclude a brief two-game set against the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. Trout made a stellar defensive play to throw Max Muncy out at the plate from center field and belted a 454-foot homer in Tuesday’s 5-4 victory while Kole Calhoun went 3-for-5 with a solo blast and two RBIs as the Angels improved to 8-3 since the All-Star break. Trout missed three games last week due to a strained calf but has now homered in three straight games for the third time this month.

• The Angels have won all three meetings this season against the Dodgers, who rallied from an early 4-1 deficit on Tuesday but saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt when Calhoun threw out Cody Bellinger at the plate to end the contest. Bellinger and Corey Seager had two hits apiece for a Dodgers’ team that lost at home for just the 13th time in 53 games.

• Barria appeared as a reliever last Friday against Seattle and allowed 10 runs over 3 2/3 innings. “He just didn’t have his best stuff tonight,” Angels manager Brad Ausmus told reporters afterward. “His changeup and slider weren’t working the way they normally do. His fastball command wasn’t very good.” The 23-year-old has shuttled between Triple-A Salt Lake and the Angels this season, posting a 34-to-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio across eight appearances (three starts) in the majors.

• Stripling has had mixed results since replacing Rich Hill (forearm) in the rotation last month, going 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in five starts covering 22 innings. The 29-year-old allowed three runs – two earned – over five innings in a no-decision against Philadelphia last Thursday. Trout is 5-for-5 with two homers against Stripling, who faced Los Angeles twice as a reliever last month and owns a 1-1 record and 5.11 ERA in four career games (two starts) versus the Angels.

• Calhoun is 15-for-44 with five home runs and six RBIs in his career at Dodger Stadium.

• The Dodgers are 19-13 in one-run games compared to 8-13 for the Angels.

• The Angels recalled INF/OF Taylor Ward from Triple-A Salt Lake and optioned LHP Dillon Peters to the Bees.
