• Adam Jones has been a pleasant surprise for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who picked up the 14-year veteran outfielder as a free agent midway through spring training. Jones looks to extend his hitting streak to six games on Saturday, when the Diamondbacks continue their three-game series against the visiting San Francisco Giants. The Giants were searching for outfield help during the offseason but decided not to pursue Jones, who recorded three hits in Friday’s 7-0 victory and is 11-for-22 with three home runs and six RBIs over his last five contests. Eduardo Escobar tripled in three runs and David Peralta added a solo homer on Friday as the Diamondbacks improved to 4-4 on their 10-game homestand.

• San Francisco has lost five of its last seven games and needs more production from several veterans in the lineup – including Brandon Crawford, who is batting .203 after grounding out with the bases loaded in the sixth inning on Friday and finishing 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. One bright spot was the return of catcher Buster Posey, who delivered a pair of hits after being activated from the 7-day concussion list prior to the game.

• Bumgarner did not factor in the decision against Cincinnati on Sunday after allowing four runs – two earned – in six innings. The four-time All-Star has pitched well in three starts this month, posting a 3.50 ERA with a 23-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 18 frames. Wilmer Flores has registered a pair of hits in 14 at-bats against Bumgarner, who is 7-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 18 career games (17 starts) at Chase Field.

• Godley appeared as an opener for the first time in his career on Sunday against Atlanta, giving up one run and four hits in two innings. The 29-year-old native of South Carolina likely will fill that role again versus San Francisco following his relief appearance against Pittsburgh on Tuesday, when he allowed three runs in two frames. Crawford is 4-for-10 with a home run against Godley, who owns a 3-3 record and 6.68 ERA in eight career games (six starts) against San Francisco.

• The Giants have been outscored 46-6 in the first inning this season.

• Arizona RHP Zack Greinke (abdomen) will throw his regular bullpen session on Saturday and hopes to avoid the injured list.

• San Francisco optioned C Aramis Garcia to Triple-A Sacramento to make room on the roster for Posey.
