The San Francisco Giants charged into contention in the National League wild-card race by posting a 19-6 record in July, the best record in the majors for the month. The turn of the calendar began with a thud for San Francisco, which heads into the final leg of a nine-game road trip with the first of three at the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. The Giants had won seven consecutive series before dropping two of three in Philadelphia, a stretch that included a four-game sweep in Colorado from July 15-17. Mike Yastrzemski had two hits in Thursday’s 10-2 drubbing and is 10-for-21 during a five-game hitting streak for San Francisco, which scored 40 runs in last month’s sweep at Coors Field.

The Rockies were 42-38 after taking two of three from the Giants from June 24-26 but have dropped 21 of their last 29 games to tumble into last place in the NL West. Nolan Arenado has five RBIs during a six-game hitting streak overall but is only 12-for-49 against San Francisco this season.

Unlike his team, Anderson struggled in July, finishing the month with an 0-1 record and 7.71 ERA after permitting four runs and seven hits over five innings in a loss at San Diego on Saturday. The 24-year-old failed to pitch beyond five innings in each of his five starts during the month and allowed at least four runs in four of them while surrendering five homers overall. Anderson has struggled in eight road starts, posting a 5.65 ERA and .306 batting average against.

Lambert opened his major league career by winning his first two starts in early June, but he is winless in seven subsequent trips to the mound, taking a no-decision after allowing two runs over five innings at Cincinnati on Sunday. The 22-year-old rookie took the loss at Washington in his previous turn, giving up three runs and nine hits while striking out eight over 5 1/3 innings. Although Lambert has split two decisions at Coors Field, he has a 7.61 ERA in five starts there.

Giants SS Brandon Crawford jammed his shoulder in Thursday’s loss and may be unavailable Friday.

Rockies OF David Dahl is riding a nine-game hitting streak.

The Giants placed OF Alex Dickerson (oblique) on the injured list Thursday.
