• Trevor Bauer is off to a dominating start and the Cleveland right-hander looks to post another strong outing when the Indians visit the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday in the second contest of a three-game set. Bauer has allowed one hit in 14 innings and pitched seven no-hit frames in his last turn before being removed. Bauer struck out eight but issued six walks and tossed 117 pitches against the Toronto Blue Jays last Thursday and had no issues with being pulled from a no-hitter. “I got myself in trouble, a lot of deep counts, a lot of free passes,” Bauer told reporters. “Yeah, it was the right decision.” The Indians smacked four homers in Tuesday’s 8-2 victory over the Tigers for their fifth straight victory as they opened a nine-game road trip.

• Detroit had a five-game winning streak halted while falling out of first place in the American League Central, and stands a half-game behind Cleveland.

• Bauer held opposing batters to a .208 average last season and his strong start has lowered that mark to .024 through his first two outings. The 28-year-old has struck out 17 and walked seven and owns a stellar 0.57 WHIP. Bauer is 8-5 in 16 career appearances (15 starts) against the Tigers but has a high 5.63 ERA and has served up 12 homers, though Miguel Cabrera (10-for-29) has taken him deep just once.

• Boyd has struck out a whopping 23 batters over 11 1/3 innings while allowing just four earned runs. The 28-year-old struck out a career-best 13 in 6 1/3 innings against the New York Yankees in his last turn but received a no-decision despite giving up just one run and five hits across 6 1/3 innings. Boyd is 1-3 with a 3.09 ERA in eight career appearances (seven starts) against the Indians.

• The Indians placed Mike Clevinger (back) on the 10-day injured list – manager Terry Francona called the ailment “fairly significant” – and fellow RHP Nick Wittgren was recalled from Triple-A Columbus.

• Cabrera had two hits in the series opener and is 7-of-13 during a four-game hitting streak.

• Cleveland 2B Jason Kipnis (calf) is serving a rehab stint and could return during the team’s nine-game road trip.
