Seattle is just 10-29 over their last 39 games, and they enter this one having lost eight of their last nine games. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what went wrong, but they clearly aren’t the same team they were earlier in the season. As they try to get things turned around, they’ll turn to veteran Mike Leake here. Leake has been thoroughly mediocre the last handful of years, and he enters this one with a 4.73 ERA. In his most recent start, he got absolutely rocked. In five innings, he gave up 11 hits, seven earned runs, and three home runs.

While the Mariners have been in free-fall, their division rivals are starting to pick up steam. The A’s are on a roll right now and are starting to look like the great team we saw last season. They made the playoffs as a surprise team last season, but really struggled early on this year. Entering this series finale, they’ve won eight straight games. They won the first two games of this series and will be going for the sweep here. They’ll have Brett Anderson on the mound here as they look to keep the momentum going. Anderson has been solid but not spectacular and enters with a 4.14 ERA.

The A’s are one of the best home teams in the entire league, and they’re 48-21 in their last 69 home games. Oakland’s lineup has been rolling recently and has been remarkably consistent, scoring at least five runs in seven of their last eight games, so they shouldn’t have much trouble hitting Leake here.
