• The New York Mets are struggling on the road but the Arizona Diamondbacks are having problems everywhere as the clubs meet Saturday in Phoenix in the middle contest of their three-game set. New York (28-29), which hasn’t won a series in Arizona since 2014, prevailed for only the fourth time in its last 19 away games with a 5-4 victory Friday while the Diamondbacks (28-30) dropped their fifth straight and fell to 3-10 in their last 13 contests after another close loss. Arizona continues to struggle in one-run games with seven of its last nine losses coming in that fashion with its 25 one-run contests (9-16) the most in baseball. Diamondbacks third baseman Eduardo Escobar stayed hot by going 2-for-4 on Friday and is batting .348 with four home runs, 14 RBIs and eight runs in his last 10 games.

• Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has 19 home runs this season but did not go deep Friday, so he settled for tying the all-time rookie record for most hit before June 1 set by Mark McGwire in 1987. New York’s Jacob deGrom takes the ball Saturday and faces Zack Greinke (11 straight quality starts) in a matchup of Cy Young Award winners.

• DeGrom received a no-decision after allowing two runs and seven hits in five innings of New York’s 9-5 loss at Dodger Stadium on Monday. The 30-year-old Florida native and 2018 National League Cy Young winner was 1-2 with a 2.92 ERA in six May starts, yielding two or fewer runs in five of the outings. DeGrom won in his only appearance against Arizona, striking out 13 in seven innings of a 3-1 victory May 18, 2018.

• Greinke went 1-1 with a 2.14 ERA in five May starts, including a no-decision after permitting one run and four hits in six innings of a 4-3 loss at Colorado on Monday. According to mlb.com, the 35-year-old Florida native and 2009 American League Cy Young winner has thrown 80 pitches at less than 70 miles per hour this season – the most in baseball – with hitters going 0-for-31 with 12 strikeouts in at-bats decided on those pitches. New York’s Todd Frazier and Carlos Gomez are a combined 7-for-47 with 17 strikeouts against Greinke, who is 5-1 with a 3.08 ERA in eight starts versus the Mets.

• Arizona 1B Christian Walker is 6-for-9 in his last three games and has hit a two-run homer in each of the past two.

• New York RHP Seth Lugo (shoulder) on Friday was activated from the injured list and pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

• Diamondbacks CF-2B Ketel Marte is 15-for-37 in his last eight games after belting his 13th home run Friday.
