Hess, who worked two scoreless innings and struck out two in relief on Opening Day, will take his first turn in the rotation in 2019 after making 19 starts as a rookie last season. The Tennessee Tech product struggled to the tune of a 0-2 record and 7.50 ERA during exhibition play but managed to post a 3.81 ERA across 11 appearances (10 starts) after the All-Star break as a rookie. Randal Grichuk (3-for-8, three doubles) has fared well versus Hess while Justin Smoak (0-for-9, six strikeouts) has not.

Reid-Foley will draw his eighth career start Monday after the team announced Clayton Richard will be shut down for at least the next two weeks with a stress reaction in his right knee. The 2014 second-round selection made seven starts as a rookie in 2018, mixing two 10-strikeout efforts in which he permitted a total of one run across 12 frames with two games in which he surrendered 12 earned runs in nine innings. Reid-Foley, who will face Baltimore for the first time, is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three career home starts.

Blue Jays pitchers set a team record for strikeouts over the first four games of a season in the series against the Tigers with 50.

Baltimore OF Dwight Smith Jr., who logged only 92 at-bats with Toronto over the previous two seasons before he traded to the Orioles in early March, went 5-for-11 with two RBIs versus the Yankees.
