• JT Brubaker will seek a breakthrough victory when the slumping Pittsburgh Pirates face the St. Louis Cardinals in a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday. Brubaker (0-6, 4.60 ERA) will start the opener in St. Louis. He hasn’t won since Aug. 24, 2021, when the Pirates defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2. Since then, he has made 13 starts without securing a victory. The right-hander is 0-5 with a 6.75 ERA in six career games (five starts) against the Cardinals.

• When Brubaker last opposed the Cardinals, on April 7, he allowed four runs on four hits and three walks in three innings during a 9-0 defeat. However, he delivered a quality start in his latest outing. He gave up three runs on six hits, two walks and a hit batter in seven innings en route to a 3-1 road loss to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Brubaker has allowed three runs or fewer in seven of his past nine starts.
