Lynn’s debut with the Rangers didn’t quite go as planned as he was tagged by the Chicago Cubs for seven runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings on Sunday. The 31-year-old native of Indiana escaped with a no-decision, however, and did not walk a batter while registering five strikeouts. Lynn has yet to defeat the Angels in his career, going 0-1 while yielding 10 runs and 21 hits over 16 2/3 frames in three starts.

Pena was not as fortunate in Oakland on Saturday as he suffered the loss after giving up four runs and four hits in 3 2/3 innings. The 29-year-old Dominican made his final start of 2018 versus Texas on Sept. 24 and did not figure in the decision after allowing three runs and five hits over a career high-tying seven frames. Pena pitched much better in his first career turn against the Rangers 12 days earlier, when he scattered six hits over six scoreless innings en route to victory.

Texas OF Nomar Mazara (quadriceps) was not in the lineup for the series opener but is expected to play Friday.

Angels SS Andrelton Simmons (back) exited the series opener in the third inning after striking out in his only at-bat.
