Texas Rangers right-hander A.J. Alexy will try to follow up his impressive major-league debut with another solid performance when he faces the Los Angeles Angels on Monday in the finale of their four-game series in Anaheim, Calif. Alexy (1-0, 0.00 ERA) threw five shutout innings last Monday and allowed one hit in a 4-3 win against the visiting Colorado Rockies. Alexy was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB draft and then traded the following year to the Rangers in the Yu Darvish deal. He was the third starting pitcher to make his MLB debut for the Rangers in a span of six days.

The Angels plan to counter with right-hander Jaime Barria. Barria (2-2, 5.40) is looking to recapture the success he had in late July, when he rejoined the Angels and strung together his two best outings of the season. He took a step back in August, however, going 0-2 in five starts with a 6.75 ERA.

In his last outing, Barria showed some promise, holding the New York Yankees scoreless for the first three innings, benefiting from two of their five double plays in the game. Barria gave up a home run to lead off the fourth before ultimately allowing two runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings, leaving him ineligible for the win in the 6-4 victory.

Angels outfielder Jo Adell will look to put a bow on a solid series so far. He’s 6-for-10 in the past three games and blasted two home runs in the 7-3 loss on Sunday. Angels manager Joe Maddon said the difference on Sunday was Adell took advantage of good pitches to hit.
