• The Tampa Bay Rays won five of seven games against a pair of 2018 playoff teams to open the season at home and now they hit the road for the next nine, starting with the first of three against the San Francisco Giants on Friday. The Rays have allowed 11 runs – six in the past six contests – after falling 1-0 in 11 innings against Colorado on Wednesday afternoon, and their bullpen boasts a 0.64 ERA in 28 frames. We can pitch. There’s no denying that,” Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash told reporters. “We’ve got some guys that are coming into their own in their careers, and then we have some established guys that kind of complement them.” Tyler Glasgow goes for his second win when he takes the mound for the Rays on Friday against fellow right-hander Dereck Rodriguez in the home opener for San Francisco, which started the season with a 2-5 road trip against San Diego and the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.

• The Giants have managed 17 runs in their first seven games after rookie Steven Duggar (8-for-28 overall) belted his first major league homer and Brandon Belt launched his team-leading second in a 5-3 loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday. San Francisco third baseman Evan Longoria, who is Tampa Bay’s all-time leader in runs (780), doubles (338), homers (261) and RBIs (892), faces his former team for the first time after going 6-for-23 with a homer to start 2019.

• Glasgow made 77 pitches in his season debut, allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk across five innings to beat Houston 3-1 on Saturday. The 25-year-old California native, acquired from Pittsburgh just before last season’s trade deadline, was 1-5 with a 4.20 ERA and struck out 64 over 55 2/3 innings in 11 starts with Tampa Bay. Belt had a double in his lone at bat versus Glasgow, who gave up two hits across two scoreless innings of relief against the Giants last year.

• Rodriguez won his season debut Saturday, limiting San Diego to two runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts and zero walks over five innings. The 26-year-old Texas native went 6-4 with a 2.81 ERA as a rookie last season, permitting 98 hits across 118 1/3 innings overall, and was 4-3 with a 2.68 ERA and a .204 opponents’ batting average at home. Rodriguez faces the Rays for the first time in his career, but went 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA in three starts against American League foes last year.

• San Francisco CF Kevin Pillar, who batted .243 in 85 games against the Rays while with Toronto, is 0-for-5 in two games since being acquired.

• Tampa Bay OF Tommy Pham has reached base in 39 straight games, dating back to last year, to tie the franchise record held by Johnny Damon.

• The Giants swept three at Tampa Bay in 2016 and the teams will meet in San Francisco for the first time since 2002.
