• Getting away from Fenway Park provided a much-needed jolt for the Boston Red Sox, who rebounded from a pair of lopsided defeats against the New York Mets to snap a four-game losing streak. After coming out on top against two-time reigning Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom, the Red Sox vie for a split of a four-game, home-and-home set at the Mets on Thursday night. Catcher Christian Vázquez had his third two-hit game of the young season Wednesday and he made them count, smacking a tying home run before delivering a two-run single in the eighth inning in the 6-5 victory. Mitch Moreland had a run-scoring double and drove in the go-ahead run to give him five RBIs in his four starts.

• Yoenis Cespedes and Brandon Nimmo belted solo homers for New York, which has scored 20 runs in the series after managing only five in the season-opening three-game set versus Atlanta. Pete Alonso, the reigning NL Rookie of the Year, collected four hits Wednesday after entering the contest in a 2-for-20 funk.

• Perez struggled in his Boston debut, allowing five runs (four earned) and six hits in five innings to take the loss. Thrust into the No. 2 role in Boston’s tattered starting rotation due to injuries and trades, the 29-year-old Venezuelan hopes for better success on the road, where he was 5-3 with a 4.81 ERA last season with the Twins. Perez has held New York’s Robinson Cano to 7-for-39.

• Matz was superb in his season debut against Atlanta but saw his chance for a win disappear when the bullpen could not hold a one-run lead in the ninth inning. The 29-year-old from nearby Stony Brook worked six strong innings, yielding only one run on two hits while striking out seven. Matz, who has never faced the Red Sox, finished 8-2 with a 2.31 ERA last season at Citi Field.

• Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts was not in the starting lineup Wednesday due to back stiffness.

• The Mets placed OF Jake Marisnick on the injured list due to a left hamstring strain

• Boston recalled RHP Chris Mazza and designated C Jonathan Lucroy for assignment.
