• The Chicago Cubs appear to have righted the ship after enduring a stretch during which they lost eight of 10 contests. Chicago aims for its third consecutive victory when it hosts the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday for the middle contest of their three-game series. The Cubs ended a three-game slide with Monday’s 8-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Angels in the opener of their seven-game homestand and followed up with a 6-3 win over Colorado. Like his team, Javier Baez seems to be breaking out of a slump as he has gone 5-for-8 with two home runs and five RBIs in his last two contests after batting just .167 over his previous 10 games.
• Daniel Murphy went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs on Tuesday for the Rockies, whose eight-game winning streak came to an end. The blast was just the fourth of the year for Murphy, who has recorded only 16 homers since the start of 2018 after belting at least 23 in each of the previous two campaigns.
• Marquez enjoyed a successful month of May, winning all three of his decisions while escaping with no-decisions after three rough outings. The 24-year-old Venezuelan ended the month with a victory over Toronto on Friday in which he allowed two runs and six hits over seven innings. Marquez has made three career starts against the Cubs, going 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA.
• Darvish made six starts last month but did not record a decision despite allowing three runs or fewer in four of the outings. The 32-year-old native of Japan worked six innings at St. Louis on Friday, permitting one run on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Darvish has yet to defeat Colorado in his career, surrendering 16 runs on 17 hits and nine walks over 13 1/3 frames while losing all three of his starts.
• Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado is riding a 14-game hitting streak during which he has gone 26-for-56 with five homers and 17 RBIs.
• Chicago activated Pedro Strop (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned fellow RHP Dillon Maples to Triple-A Iowa.
• Colorado OF Raimel Tapia went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Tuesday, ending his career-high hitting streak at 12 games.
