• The Arizona Diamondbacks found themselves on opposite ends of an offensive explosion in each of their past two contests, which pretty much sums up what the Colorado Rockies witnessed every day during their last series. The Rockies hope to carry over what turned out to be a history-making weekend at Coors Field when they begin a nine-game road swing against National League West rivals on Tuesday with the first of three contests in Arizona. Colorado outscored San Diego 48-44 to set a major-league record for the highest-scoring four-game series in modern history, but it could only salvage a split when it was unable to hold to a three-run lead in the ninth inning Sunday en route to a 14-13 loss. The series featured 131 hits – the most in any four-game series since 1922 – including 15 alone from leadoff hitter Charlie Blackmon, who set another modern-day record for the most by any player in a four-game set.

• The Diamondbacks engaged in a slightly toned-down offensive showcase in the nation’s capital over the weekend, pounding Washington’s pitching staff for five homers in Saturday’s 10-3 triumph before serving up four blasts in the Nationals’ 15-5 rout on Sunday. Ketel Marte continued to make his bid for an All-Star nod during the Diamondbacks’ just-completed 7-3 road trip, batting .372 with six homers, seven RBIs and 14 runs scored.

• Senzatela watched a string of three strong outings come to an end in spectacular fashion against Chicago on Wednesday after the Cubs reached him for eight runs (six earned) over four-plus innings. The 24-year-old had recorded three straight quality starts prior to that, allowing a total of four runs on 17 hits over 18 frames. The first of those outings came May 28 against Arizona, as Senzatela permitted two runs on nine hits over six innings in a no-decision.

• Kelly has been among the best pitchers in the majors in June, improving to 3-0 with a 0.81 ERA after yielding three hits and fanning five across 7 2/3 innings Wednesday in a victory at Philadelphia. The Arizona State product gave up a single run in each of the previous two outings, including a career-best 10-strikeout performance in his last home turn against the New York Mets on June 2. Kelly’s most recent loss came May 28 in Colorado after giving up four runs over 6 2/3 frames.

• Blackmon lifted his batting average 31 points to .336 in the San Diego series, finishing the four-game set 15-for-24 with four homers, 10 RBIs and nine runs scored.

• Marte has reached base safely in 22 of his last 23 games, batting .347 with 11 home runs and 19 RBIs over that stretch.

• Five of the team’s seven meetings this season – all of which have taken place in Colorado – have been decided by one run.
