• Despite another potential key addition to their list of walking wounded, the New York Yankees kicked off a seven-game homestand by beating up on one of their favorite opponents. After easing to a 6-3 victory in the series opener, New York will go for their ninth consecutive victory over the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the second of a three-game set. Gary Sanchez swatted a pair of home runs to give him four blasts and nine RBIs during a five-game hitting streak for the Yankees, who have won 10 of 13 overall. New York has been decimated by injuries but third baseman Miguel Andujar is expected to return to the lineup Saturday for the first time since injuring his right shoulder in the third game of the season.

• Minnesota arrived at Yankee Stadium owning the best record in the American League but bumbled their way through the early innings with a pair of errors and a wild pitch that led to three unearned runs. Nelson Cruz clubbed a two-run homer for the Twins, who lost for only the second time in their last eight games.

• After following a brilliant season debut in which he struck out 11 with a pair of clunkers on the road, Odorizzi is back in a groove and takes a three-start winning streak into Saturday’s game. He went a season-high seven innings last time out against Houston and did not allow a run while yielding only four hits after beating the Astros with 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball in his previous turn. Brett Gardner is only 6-for-31 against Odorizzi, who owns a 2-4 record and 6.20 ERA at Yankee Stadium.

• Happ also has turned things around after struggling out of the gate and turned in his third consecutive quality start last time out, earning his first victory with seven scoreless innings of five-hit ball at San Francisco. He also went seven innings in his previous turn, holding the Los Angeles Angeles to two runs on three hits after tossing 6 1/3 innings of three-run ball versus Boston. Happ is 3-4 with a 4.85 ERA lifetime versus the Twins and must be wary of DH Cruz, who is 10-for-24 against him.

• Yankees 1B Luke Voit has reached base in 42 straight games, tying for the team’s third-longest streak since 1993-94.

• Twins LF Marwin Gonzalez has back-to-back two-hit games after going 2-for-28 over the previous eight contests.

• Yankees LH James Paxton will undergo an MRI exam after exiting Friday’s game with soreness in his left knee.  He was placed on the IL this morning.
