Who will WIN this matchup?
Golden State Warriors (4-17)
@ Atlanta Hawks (4-16)
Current odds:
Golden State Warriors: (+225)
Atlanta Hawks: (-265)
• The line for this game is Atlanta by 6.5 points.
• The Atlanta Hawks will try to snap a 10-game losing streak against a team they’ve lost to nine straight times when they host the Golden State Warriors on Monday. The Warriors have not lost to the Hawks since Feb. 6, 2015, but those results came when Golden State was a very different team. Now stuck with the worst record in the NBA, the injury-ravaged Warriors are coming off a 100-96 loss at Orlando on Sunday to fall to 0-2 on their five-game road trip. Power forward Draymond Green is expected to rest on the second half of the back-to-back in Atlanta, but Kevon Looney should eat up some of his minutes when he returns from a hamstring injury, according to Golden State head coach Steve Kerr. Looney is starting tonight.
• The Hawks have had a few complete no-shows during their 10-game slide, including a 158-111 loss at Houston on Saturday to complete an 0-3 road trip. Trae Young followed up his 49-point effort in an overtime loss at Indiana with 37 more in just 31 minutes versus the Rockets.
• D’Angelo Russell, one of three All-Star guards on the shelf for Golden State, will not play Monday but could return from a hand injury before the trip is over. Looney has been out for over a month but should help a squad that has been outrebounded in six of its last eight games. Willie Cauley-Stein did his part with 11 points and 12 rebounds in Sunday’s loss for his first double-double of the season.
• Young is 26-for-44 from the floor – 13-for-24 from 3-point range – in his last two games and is averaging 36.4 points over his last five. His efforts weren’t nearly enough at Houston, where the Hawks were outrebounded 52-29 and allowed Rockets superstar James Harden to go for 60 points. “We try to do what we have to do against James, which is throw a lot of bodies at him,” coach Lloyd Pierce told reporters. “Try and put him under duress. He just didn’t feel us.”
• Warriors SG Jordan Poole missed all eight of his shots and had one point Sunday after scoring a season high-tying 20 at Miami on Friday.
• Hawks C Alex Len is 11-for-15 from the floor over the last two games.
• Golden State PF Eric Paschall has scored in double figures in 10 consecutive contests.
