Wichita State on Sunday will put its seven-game true road winning streak – the nation’s second-longest behind Gonzaga’s 13 – on the line when the 23rd-ranked Shockers visit Connecticut. Wichita State hit its low point with a 20-point road defeat to UConn last season – dropping its American Athletic Conference record to 1-6 – but the Shockers have gone 28-5 since, including victories in their last eight games. The Shockers received a balanced scoring effort Thursday in their 76-67 triumph over No. 22 Memphis as six players tallied at least eight points, led by sophomore guard Jamarius Burton’s team-best 16 points and three assists. “You know we don’t have as many top-100 players or McDonald’s All-Americans and lottery picks as (the Tigers) do,” Shockers coach Gregg Marshall told reporters. “But we do have 13 very talented players and I feel confident going all the way through our scholarship players – one through 13 – they can all help us win, and they helped us win (tonight).”

UConn forward Tyler Polley managed a combined three points on 1-of-9 shooting during his team’s two losses to open AAC play, but the junior notched his first career double-double with a team-high 19 points and career-best 11 rebounds Wednesday as the Huskies claimed a 67-61 victory over Tulane. “(Polley) obviously had a rough start on the road last week,” UConn coach Dan Hurley told the media. “He looked in the mirror and he could have continued to spiral, or he could have, like a number of our players, stood up and fought today.”

Burton is averaging 10.9 points on 49.5-percent shooting this season but has raised his game in two conference games with 15.5 points per contest while combining to shoot 10-for-17 from the floor. Freshman guard Tyson Etienne is scoring 10.5 points per game and makes 43.4 percent of his 3-point field goals – third-best in the AAC. Sophomore guard Erik Stevenson is the team’s leading scorer (13.9 points) and 15 of his team-high 28 steals have come in the last five games.

Senior guard Christian Vital had an off night shooting Wednesday with a 3-for-11 showing but still finished with 14 points and is averaging team highs of 13.5 points and 6.9 rebounds while his 2.4 steals per game were 21st in the country entering Saturday. The Huskies are the nation’s best team at blocking shots (7.2) thanks to redshirt freshman Akok Akok who is averaging 3.07 – best in the conference and ninth-best nationally. Redshirt junior Alterique Gilbert chipped in with 11 points and seven assists against Tulane and leads the AAC with 4.9 helpers per game.

The Shockers have won the turnover battle in all but two games this season and have a 4.6 turnover margin – 19th best nationally.

Huskies F Josh Carlton is tied for first in the AAC in offensive rebounds per game (3.0) and tied for fifth in blocks (20)

This is the only regular season meeting and possibly the last conference matchup as the Huskies will rejoin the Big East in 2020-21.
