ACC Tournament: North Carolina v. Virginia Tech

Who will WIN this matchup?

North Carolina Tar Heels (13-18)

Virginia Tech Hokies (16-15)

Current odds:

North Carolina Tar Heels: (-215)

Virginia Tech Hokies: (+170)

The spread for the game is North Carolina by 4.5 points.

One of the keys to the team’s recent offensive resurgence – during which they have averaged 86.5 points – has been junior forward Garrison Brooks (16.7 points, team-high 8.8 rebounds), who is averaging 26.8 points and 10.8 rebounds over the last four contests. His inspired play made Anthony (team-high 19.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, team-high 4.1 assists) a more efficient player, as he averaged 24 points on 58.9 percent shooting during the winning streak prior to tying a season low with nine points on 4-of-14 from the field against Duke. North Carolina has reason to be confident against the Hokies, however, considering the Tar Heels did not have two of their top three scorers (Anthony and guard Brandon Robinson) available in the first meeting.

Junior forward P.J. Horne (7.6 points) snapped out of a four-game slump in which he totaled 16 points on 6-of-24 shooting with 17 points on 6-of-10 from the floor in Wednesday’s victory over Clemson and paced the Hokies in scoring again with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting versus Notre Dame. The Hokies’ leading scorers and rebounders are freshmen guards Radford (10.4 points, team-high 6.4 boards) and Landers Nolley II (15.6, 5.9), although both players have failed to score 10 points in three of the last four games. Virginia Tech knocked down 10 triples Saturday and its guard-heavy attack did frustrate the Fighting Irish, forcing 16 miscues against a Notre Dame team that ranks third in the country in turnovers per game (9.9).

The Hokies have made at least 10 3-pointers in three straight games and lead the ACC with 305 – good for the 16th-highest total in the country.
