Xavier: Wins By Double Digits

Current odds:

Xavier Muskateers: (-300)

The line for this game is Xavier by 6.5 points.

After closing the regular season with back-to-back losses, Xavier finds itself as the No. 7 seed in the Big East tournament. The Musketeers begin play at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday when they face 10th-seeded DePaul in the opening round of the event. Xavier had won six of eight before falling at Providence and at home against Butler — two losses by a combined seven points — to conclude the campaign. Naji Marshall’s three-point play gave the Musketeers a lead with under nine seconds left in the regular-season finale before Butler’s Kamar Baldwin won it for the Bulldogs.

DePaul, meanwhile, finished last in the league – two full games behind St. John’s and Georgetown – and lost both regular-season matchups with Xavier. The Blue Demons were crushed by Providence in their regular-season finale, 93-55, in their most lopsided loss of the season.

Charlie Moore paces DePaul in points (15.5) and assists (6.0), while Paul Reed leads the team in rebounds (10.6), steals (1.9) and blocks (2.6), to go along with 14.9 points per game. Jalen Coleman-Lands averages 11.3 points and has a team-most 61 3-pointers, although he is just 7-of-36 from the arc in the last eight games. Moore had a team-high 14 points in the regular-season finale against Providence as the team shot under 35 percent from the field and missed 13 of its 17 3-pointers.

Marshall (21 points), Jason Carter (17) and Tyrique Jones (14 points, 13 rebounds) were the standouts against Butler, but the team ultimately could not overcome 6-of-23 3-point shooting or 15-of-25 foul shooting. Marshall (16.9 points per game) is the top scorer on the squad and is tied with Paul Scruggs for the team lead in 3-pointers made (44). Jones (13.7 points, 11.2 rebounds) has 11 double-doubles in his last 13 games, although he had a quiet game against DePaul in the most recent meeting, managing just nine points and five boards in 29 minutes.

After missing the last two games, Scruggs (hamstring) is listed as day-to-day.

After winning the first matchup against DePaul by eight points, Xavier won the second matchup by 11 thanks to 23 points from Marshall.

In the last three games, Moore is shooting 11-of-41 from the field (26.8 percent).
