Thursday night’s game is a rematch of the conference opener for both teams after a wave of cancelations affected the early part of the Big West season. The Rainbow Warriors held off the Beach in a 72-67 loss for LBSU, the final loss before the start of the current winning streak for Long Beach State.

Long Beach State has won nine straight games, matching the longest winning streak since the 2011-12 season, when the Beach won 12 straight games. The Beach leads the conference in scoring at 70.8 points per game, and playing exciting, fast-paced basketball, ranking in the Top 25 in the nation in average tempo per Ken Pomeroy.

Long Beach State is now 11-0 this season when holding their opponents under 70 points, and has averaged 73.0 points per game during the six-game winning streak. Most importantly over that stretch, the team is holding opponents to 25.3 percent shooting from three and forcing an average of over 15 turnovers while holding foes to 62.8 points per game.

It’s been a block party as Long Beach State now leads the Big West in blocked shots, averaging 3.8 per game, led by a pair of freshmen as Aboubacar Traore has 38 on the year while Jadon Jones has made 21. Traore now ranks in the Top 10 in single season blocks as a true freshman.

At 6-2, UH is currently a game behind Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton for first place in the Big West standings.

After winning seven straight games, UH dropped back-to-back road games at UC Riverside and UC Davis.

UH led by double-digits in both of those games and both were decided in the final seconds.

Long Beach State is on a league-best nine-game win streak and has not lost since UH defeated them, 72-67, on Jan. 8 in Long Beach.

The ‘Bows drilled 15 three-pointers in that win over the Beach and led by as many as 19 points.

The last six matchups between UH and LBSU have been decided by an average of 2.8 points.

Long Beach State leads the Big West in scoring (70.8) in league games. UH is fourth in scoring defense (62.1).

UH was picked sixth in the preseason media poll while Long Beach State was picked seventh.
