Notre Dame v. Purdue

Who will WIN this matchup?

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-3)

Purdue Boilermakers (6-4)

Current odds:

Notre Dame Fighting Irish: (+200)

Purdue Boilermakers: (-240)

• The line for this game is Purdue by 5.5 points.

• UCLA’s Kris Wilkes hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 0.1 remaining on the clock as the Bruins edged the Fighting Irish 65-62. “Love that we gave ourselves a chance to win. Got to give credit to UCLA. They made some big plays at key times,” Notre Dame coach Mike Brey told reporters after the game.

• Purdue got 40 points from Carsen Edwards, but it wasn’t enough as Texas’ Matt Coleman III scored six of the Longhorns’ last eight points to close out the Boilermakers. Purdue struggled mightily in defending the perimeter, giving up 11 triples to a Texas team that is ranked 293rd in the country in 3-point field-goal percentage.

•  The Irish had rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit and looked like they might have had a game-winner but Prentiss Hubb’s layup with just a few seconds remaining was blocked, leading to Wilkes’ winner. Rex Pflueger led Notre Dame with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting which included 4-of-4 beyond the arc. D.J. Harvey added 13 and John Mooney had 12, while leading scorer T.J. Gibbs was held to nine on 4-of-14 shooting.

• Edwards tied his career high in points and his performance earned him Big Ten Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. The junior guard will need more help if the Boilermakers want to get on track as Matt Haarms (10 points) was the only other player to reach double figures against Texas. Purdue’s bench added just seven points on 3-for-17 shooting.

• Notre Dame shot just 23 percent in the first half against UCLA, leading to a season-low 20 points at the break.

• The Fighting Irish are playing their third straight away from home after opening the season with seven straight in South Bend, Ind.

• Edwards leads the Big Ten at scoring with 25.5 points per game.
