The Rebels and first-year head coach Kermit Davis are coming off back-to-back home wins over San Diego (93-86) and Lousiana-Monroe (83-60), shooting over 50 percent in both wins. Junior guard Breein Tyree leads the team in scoring (17.3 per game) with senior guard Terence Davis (14.7) and sophomore guard Devontae Shuler (10.0) also averaging in double figures, but the Rebels have struggled on the boards, ranking last in the SEC in rebounds per game (34.7) with freshman forward KJ Buffen (5.3) the only player averaging more than five boards. “I don’t know if any team in college basketball does rebounding drills every day like we do,” Davis told the Clarion Ledger. “We do some sort of rebounding drill every day. It’s just got to keep being an emphasis.”

Senior forward Malik Yarbrough is a Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year candidate who currently ranks third in the conference in scoring (18.2), first in rebounding (8.5) and fifth in assists (3.7) while also shooting 39.1 percent from 3-point range. Senior forward Phil Fayne was named to the preseason All-MVC team and hasn’t disappointed, averaging 14.7 points and 5.4 rebounds so far while also blocking a team-most 16 shots. Junior guards Josh Jefferson (13.2 points and Zach Copeland (10.1) also are averaging double digits.

Ole Miss leads the SEC and ranks 11th nationally in free throw shooting percentage (78.8).
