Jamarius Burton, a 6-4 guard, was key to Wichita State tallying 19 second-chance points against Oral Roberts as five of the freshman’s career-high eight rebounds were on the offensive end. Senior Markis McDuffie scored 19 of his team-high 25 points after halftime Wednesday, helping the Shockers outscore an opponent in the second half for the first time since a Nov. 25 win against Rice and for only the third time this season. Wichita State entered Wednesday’s contest sitting 286th out of 351 Division I teams in free throw percentage (65.1) but shot 72.7 percent against Oral Roberts led by McDuffie, who hit all 10 of his attempts and is 27-for-29 from the charity stripe over his last five games.

The Rams entered Friday ranked fourth nationally in 3-point field goal defense (25.2) but are also among the worst shooting teams in the country from downtown (27.9) – 333rd nationally. Junior De’Riante Jenkins led the Rams with a season-high 23 points in the loss to Charleston – shooting 7-for-8 on 2-pointers and 2-for-11 on 3s. Forward Marcus Santos-Silva matched his season high with 16 points while grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds last Saturday (six offensive) as the junior was 22nd in the country in offensive boards per game (3.45).

Wichita State has outrebounded its opponents by double digits in all three games since getting pummeled on the glass 52-33 in a loss to Oklahoma Dec. 8 – the program’s worst rebounding margin in 20 years.
