There are a number of big games set to take place during week 3 of the college football season, including a big matchup in Oregon. The Oregon Ducks host the BYU Cougars and the winner of this game will move up when the latest polls are released.

BYU comes into this game with a perfect 2-0 record and they have climbed all the way up to number 12 in the most recent poll. The Cougars just knocked off Baylor in a thrilling game in week 2.

Oregon suffered a 49-3 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in week 1, but they were able to bounce back in week 2. The Ducks are back in the top 25 and they are one of the contenders to win the Pac-12 conference.

The BYU Cougars have the ability to be explosive on offense, but they also just proved that they can win games on the defensive end. BYU held a top 10 Baylor team to just 20 points in week 2 and a similar defensive effort will be needed in this one.

BYU is giving up just 129 rushing yards per game and that defensive front has done a great job of taking over the game. The Cougars could be without a couple of stars in this game and they don’t want to try and win in a shootout.

Quarterback Jaren Hall has played well this season, as he has thrown for 522 yards and three touchdowns.

Oregon held Eastern Washington to just 14 total points in week 2, but that wasn’t the case in week 1. The Ducks gave up 49 points in week 1 to Georgia and this team is going to have to get stops to beat BYU at home.

Scoring points shouldn’t be much of an issue, as Bo Nix has been playing well to lead the way for the Oregon Ducks. Nix has thrown five touchdown passes through two games, but he struggled in week 1 as well.

Oregon is averaging over 200 rushing yards per game and finding balance on offense will be a big key as well.

BYU has enough talent to be one of the best college football teams in the country when healthy, but they are a little banged up in this game. The Cougars were without two wide receivers in week 2 and they will struggle to win this game if they are banged up.

This game won’t be as high-scoring as some might think and it will be the Oregon defense that actually shows up to take over. Oregon will use home-field advantage to come up with some big stops late in this one.

BYU and Oregon last met during the 2006 season in the Las Vegas Bowl.

In six all-time meetings, BYU and Oregon have split those match-ups.

Both teams are ranked in the Top 25 in the latest poll.
