The showdown of star quarterbacks might have to wait, but a pair of hopeful Super Bowl contenders nonetheless will square off Sunday night as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Green Bay Packers. The Chiefs are expected to be without Patrick Mahomes, although the reigning NFL MVP remarkably has practiced this week after dislocating his kneecap in last week’s 30-6 win over Denver. Mahomes practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday and Thursday, but he’s still a longshot to play against Green Bay. If he can’t go, Matt Moore is likely to start in his place, although the Chiefs also designated veteran Chad Henne to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, and he has shared reps in practice.

The Packers have won three straight despite playing without wide receiver Davante Adams (turf toe) in all three contests, and he’s likely to sit out again on Sunday. Tight end Jimmy Graham and receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling both are battling ankle injuries but hope to suit up, and Aaron Rodgers is expected to play despite a tweaked knee.

Despite a banged-up receiving corps, Rodgers put up huge numbers last week with 429 passing yards and five touchdowns along with a rushing score in a 42-24 win over Oakland. The Packers rank 11th in total offense and 10th in scoring offense primarily on the strength of that passing game, as they’ve failed to crack 80 rushing yards in four of their seven contests. Green Bay ranks 26th in total defense and has given up 420 or more total yards three times, but the team is ninth in scoring defense thanks to 13 takeaways.

Kansas City possesses the No. 3 offense in the league and the NFL’s most prolific passing attack, and not all of that prowess goes away with Mahomes sidelined. The Chiefs might have to get more creative to get their dangerous receivers involved, but they still have two capable backs in LeSean McCoy and Damien Williams, and matching up with a fleet of receivers led by Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelse is no easy task. Kansas City’s defense has been maligned, especially for its struggles stopping the run, but the Chiefs held Denver to 205 total yards last week and have forced turnovers in six of their seven contests – including four games with multiple takeaways.

Rodgers has averaged 289.5 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and one interceptions in his last six starts on Sunday night.

Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman is tied for second among rookies with three touchdown receptions.

Green Bay LB Blake Martinez made a career-high 16 of his league-leading 76 tackles and forced a fumble last week.
