• To defeat the New York Islanders on Thursday, the New Jersey Devils compensated for allowing 42 shots by receiving stellar goaltending while using their speed to their advantage. It is a similar formula to what they used to beat the red-hot Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The Devils will be seeking their fourth straight win Saturday afternoon when they host the Boston Bruins in Newark, N.J. New Jersey is seeking its first four-game winning streak since starting the 2018-19 season with four straight victories.

• The current streak started with last Saturday’s 3-2 shootout win against the San Jose Sharks. The Devils returned home to score 11 goals against the Panthers and Islanders in the next two games, doing so while allowing a combined 80 shots on goal.

• New Jersey followed up its 7-3 victory over Florida by getting 42 saves from Mackenzie Blackwood in a 4-0 win over New York on Thursday. Blackwood made his third start following offseason heel surgery and could get the nod again Saturday.

• Defenseman Dougie Hamilton recorded a goal and an assist in his return from a three-game absence due to a lower-body injury.

• Rookie Dawson Mercer also scored, Janne Kuokkanen netted a shorthanded goal and Tomas Tatar had a power-play tally as 11 players registered at least one point on Thursday.

• The Bruins head to New Jersey with just three goals scored during a three-game road losing streak. The road skid is part of a 3-4-0 stretch during the past seven games.

• On Thursday, the Bruins were unable to keep pace with the red-hot Edmonton Oilers in a 5-3 home loss. They allowed three goals in the third period.

• Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak scored but the Bruins saw their first two one-goal leads last for less than a minute before a mistake-filled third period.

• The Devils won five of the eight meetings last season, including recording a pair of overtime wins on home ice.
