• The Colorado Avalanche extended their sizable winning streak after ending the pronounced run of one of the hottest teams in the NHL. The Avalanche aim to push their season-high winning streak to seven games on Monday when they open a three-game homestand against the Calgary Flames. Colorado’s Andre Burakovsky is well on his way to a career season after netting his 12th goal in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Boston, which entered the contest with a 13-game overall point streak (9-0-4) and 17-game home point stretch (12-0-5). The 24-year-old Austrian, who has matched his goal totals from each of the previous three seasons, notched an assist in the Avalanche’s 5-3 win over Calgary on Oct. 3 and tallied twice in a 3-2 victory over the Flames on Nov. 19.
• Calgary rebounded from those losses and a very public coaching change to win four straight under interim bench boss Geoff Ward. Sean Monahan boosted his point streak to five games (three goals, three assists) after scoring in his second consecutive contest in Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Los Angeles.
• Milan Lucic increased his career goal total to 200 during the first period on Saturday, giving him tallies in consecutive contests after going the first 27 games of the season without one. “I think it’s pretty cool, too, I scored my first goal and my 200th goal against the same team. Nice to finally hit that milestone,” said the 31-year-old, who also tallied in consecutive contests for the first time since a three-game streak with Edmonton from April 1-6, 2017. Linemate Dillon Dube, 21, has gotten up to speed in a hurry by notching five points in as many contests, highlighted by scoring a goal and setting up another versus the Kings.
• Valeri Nichushkin set up a goal in last month’s meeting with the Flames, igniting a stretch of six points (four goals, two assists) in his last nine games. Captain Gabriel Landeskog missed that second encounter with Calgary as part of a 16-game injury absence, but he returned with goals in back-to-back contests. Pavel Francouz turned aside all 16 shots he faced in relief of an injured Philipp Grubauer on Saturday to improve to 5-0-0 with a 2.16 goals-against average and .939 save percentage in his last seven games.
• Calgary LW Johnny Gaudreau, who scored and set up a goal in the first encounter with Colorado this season, has five points (one goal, four assists) in his last six games overall.
• Avalanche D Nikita Zadorov has registered 23 hits, four blocked shots, a plus-6 rating and zero penalty minutes in his last four contests.
• Monahan has collected a goal and two assists in two games versus Colorado this season.
