The Philadelphia Flyers continue to careen in the wrong direction. The Flyers will look to avoid a season-worst 11th consecutive loss when they travel to face the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday night.

Philadelphia lost eight straight games and then fired head coach Alain Vigneault and replaced him with assistant Mike Yeo on an interim basis. Since Yeo took over, the Flyers fell 7-5 to the Colorado Avalanche and then came back with a flat 3-0 loss on the road against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

The Flyers, who have been outscored 47-18 during the skid, last dropped 10 in a row during the 2017-18 season but still earned a playoff berth. They haven’t won since Nov. 16 and right now, the idea of reaching the playoffs seems bleak.

The Flyers have resembled a team with very little confidence during this losing streak, which cost Vigneault his job in just the beginning of his third season.

The schedule doesn’t lighten, starting with this difficult matchup on the road against the Golden Knights. All the Flyers can do is move forward.

The Golden Knights, meanwhile, will be searching for their fourth straight win, which would mark a season high. In its most recent game Wednesday, Vegas defeated the Dallas Stars, 5-4. Mark Stone scored two goals and the Golden Knights rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to keep surging. Stone extended his point-scoring stretch to six, though he hadn’t scored a goal since an empty-net tally on Nov. 24 against the Nashville Predators.

The Golden Knights’ recent streak can be chalked up to a much healthier team. They have been hit hard with injuries and absence due to COVID-19.
