Who will WIN this matchup?
Vegas Golden Knights (19-13-5)
@ Vancouver Canucks (16-15-4)
Starting Goalies:
Marc-Andre Fleury (VGK): Confirmed
Jacob Markstrom (VAN): Confirmed
Current odds:
Vegas Golden Knights: (-135)
Vancouver Canucks: (+115)
• The Vegas Golden Knights have found their footing following a stretch in which they won only three times in 13 games, closing within one point of the Pacific Division lead in the wake of an 8-2-1 stretch. The Golden Knights go for their fourth straight win overall and second in five nights against Vancouver when they visit the Canucks on Thursday night. “I think we’ve been playing pretty solid here the last little while, more like how we want to, more consistent,” goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury said after Tuesday’s 3-2 home win over Minnesota. “I think it’s big for us. It just gives us a chance to win every night.” The Golden Knights continued their domination against Vancouver two nights earlier, improving to 8-0-1 all-time in the series with a 6-3 romp as Max Pacioretty scored twice and set up two other goals.
• The Canucks are trending in the opposite direction, losing three in a row and four of five while scoring eight goals in that span. “We’re learning how hard it is to win and how hard you have to play to win,” coach Travis Green said. “When you go through adversity, you learn a lot about your group and individuals get to look in the mirror and see what they can do better.”
• Fleury needs one win to tie Curtis Joseph (454) for sixth place on the all-time list and will take a 12-2-1 record against Vancouver into Thursday’s matchup. The fourth line of William Carrier, Tomas Nosek and Ryan Reaves was blanked in Sunday’s win over the Canucks but rebounded Tuesday as Carrier set up Nosek’s decisive tally. “We don’t talk. We just look at each other and know where we’re going to be,” Carrier said. “Nosek’s playing really well for us so we’ll just try to keep that going.”
• Forward J.T. Miller remains stuck on 13 goals — second to Elias Pettersson on the team — after scoring once in his last nine games, but he has some prime chances in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to Montreal. “The last three, four or five games, I’ve had a lot of good looks,” Miller acknowledged. “And it’s a good thing because you’re doing a lot to get there, but at the same time, I feel like I’ve got to take responsibility.” Jacob Markstrom is 1-6-1 with 31 goals allowed in eight starts versus Vegas.
• Pacioretty has five goals and nine points during a five-game streak and has six goals in the last five versus the Canucks.
• Vancouver is 2-for-16 on the power play over the past five games.
• Vegas F Mark Stone has eight points during a five-game streak, including a goal and an assist Sunday versus Vancouver.
