The Dallas Stars won six straight games to ascend into second place in the Central Division before dropping a one-goal decision in their last contest. The Stars aim to rebound from their recent misstep and bid for a four-game sweep of the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday when they conclude their four-game road trip in Denver. Tyler Seguin set up a goal for the third straight game in Dallas’ 2-1 setback to San Jose on Saturday, boosting his team-leading totals in assists (24) and points (35). The 27-year-old Seguin is never shy about shooting puck, and Colorado knows that firsthand as he scored his 17th goal in 30 career encounters during the Stars’ 3-2 shootout win on Dec. 28.

The Avalanche have had plenty of time to stew after losing their third straight contest (0-2-1) and sixth in eight outings (2-4-2), with the club being off the ice since opening a season-high five-game homestand with Friday’s 4-3 overtime setback to Pittsburgh. Nathan MacKinnon scored a power-play goal in that contest and has six tallies and seven assists in his last eight games.

Offensive-minded defenseman John Klingberg hopes to return to the lineup following a four-game absence due to a lower-body injury. The 27-year-old Swede set up a pair of goals against Colorado on Dec. 28 and has three assists in the season series. Leading goal-scorer Roope Hintz also has three points (two goals, one assist) in the season series and eight (three goals, five assists) in his last nine games overall.

Defenseman Samuel Girard celebrated his 200th career game by setting up a pair of goals against the Penguins, lifting his assist total to 11 in his last six contests. Cale Makar set up Matt Calvert’s game-tying goal in the third period on Friday, with the 24th assist tying John-Michael Liles for the second-most by a rookie blue-liner in franchise history. The 21-year-old has set up a pair of goals in the season series against Dallas.

Colorado has scored a power-play goal in each of its last three home games, going 6-for-12 in that span.

Dallas D Esa Lindell has recorded eight assists in his last six contests.

Stars F Corey Perry will serve the final contest of his five-game suspension for elbowing Nashville D Ryan Ellis during the Winter Classic.
