• Max Verstappen will start from pole position at the Styrian Grand Prix, ahead of championship rival Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen’s time of 1:03.841 earned him pole, with Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas managing the next quickest time, 0.194s behind. However, Bottas will drop three places down the grid as punishment for a dangerous spin in the pit-lane during Friday practice.

• That allowed Hamilton to inherit second position. Hamilton finished 0.226s off the pace but made a mistake on his final run, prompting him to apologise to the Mercedes team over the radio.

• Verstappen will be looking to increase his advantage in the championship at Red Bull’s home circuit. He currently leads Hamilton by 21 points. Red Bull is looking for a fourth consecutive race victory.
