• Senegal secured their last-16 spot despite scoring just one goal in their three group stage games, that coming from the spot in a late 1-0 win over Zimbabwe. There is more to come from the Lions of Teranga, who’ll look to capitalize on the early exits of the likes of Ghana, Algeria and Nigeria.

• Cape Verde progressed with four points from their three games, and they held their own against tournament hosts Cameroon in their final Group A game. However, they have lost their last four meetings with Senegal, conceding seven and scoring none, including a 2-0 defeat last June.

• It’s surely only a matter of time before Senegal click into gear and while Cape Verde may frustrate the African heavyweights, Aliou Cisse’s should have what it takes to win this in normal time.
