• Manchester United have lost all momentum since securing third in the Premier League last season. They have failed to land their top transfer targets and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has only been able to work with his first-team squad for a week. Things do not look optimistic heading into their first game of the season.

• Crystal Palace followed up their 1-0 win over Southampton last weekend with penalty shoot-out defeat to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. The Eagles won on their last visit to Old Trafford, ending a 30-year winless streak.

• With United still working their players back to some sort of full fitness, there is a chance they could be caught cold by Palace on Saturday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately needs three points to ensure things don’t go further south after a bitterly frustrating summer.
