• Jurgen Klopp was furious with the way Liverpool let a 2-0 lead over Brighton slip at the weekend to draw 2-2. Liverpool are unbeaten this season but haven’t been as watertight in defence as Klopp would like. They have let leads slip to Brighton, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Brentford and Manchester City this season.

• Diego Simeone has struggled to get the balance right between attack and defence this season, in his attempt to make Atletico Madrid more offensively-minded. They did at least get that balance right at the weekend with an impressive 3-0 win over Real Betis. However, it’s only one win across their last four with at least two goals conceded in three of those matches.

• Liverpool have surprisingly been inconsistent at home this season with three wins and three draws in all competitions. Avoiding defeat on Wednesday would all but put them through to the knockout stage having won all three group games to date.
