• Jaume Munar Clar maintained his perfect record in first-round matches in ATP events this year by defeating the dangerous Benoit Paire in two tough sets in Cordoba last week. However, the Spaniard couldn’t advance further as he was stopped by the underdog Daniel Elahi Galan in three sets in the second round.

• Tomas Martin Etcheverry retired from his first-round encounter in Santa Cruz Challenger a couple of weeks ago, but it doesn’t seem to have affected his performance too much as he won three of his following four matches against Nicolas Jarry in Cordoba (R1) and Zdenek Kolar and Dmitry Popko in the qualifying stages this week.

• Head-to-head: 0-0. In the pair’s first-ever meeting, Tomas Martin Etcheverry can offer a stern challenge and keep things close, but Jaume Munar Clar’s experience should help him negotiate the win.
