• Alexander Zverev has played two similar matches en route to the quarterfinal in Monte Carlo Masters this week. He dominated the first set against Federico Delbonis in the second round (R1 bye) and Pablo Carreno Busta in the round of 16 and recovered from a break deficit in the second set on both occasions, 6-1 7-5 and 6-2 7-5, respectively.

• Jannik Sinner battled through adversity and a nasty blister to pick up a 5-7 6-1 6-3 against the reigning ATP Dubai and Marseille champion Andrey Rublev in the round of 16. He needed some medical attention during his hard-fought three-set win over Borna Coric in the first round and was tested to an extent by Emil Ruusuvuori in the second.

• Head-to-head: Alexander Zverev leads 2-1 (0-1 on clay). Both wouldn’t want to be facing each other at the moment as neither is playing their peak tennis, and they need a deep run in a big event to gain some confidence and momentum. The German will start as the favorite but the Italian can cause serious damage if he stays fit throughout the course of the contest.
